Everything You Need To Know About Double Cleansing

by Mood Botanics |

While you are probably already used to having your own skincare routine, more and more people are also adding double cleansing to it. But what exactly is double cleansing? Should you do it as well?

What Is Double Cleansing?

Simply put, double cleansing is a very simple process that involves thoroughly washing your face with two cleansers instead of just one. The key point is that you need to use two different types of cleansers to get the result. Overall speaking, you should first apply an oil-based cleanser followed by a water-based one. Notice that in case oil-based cleansers aren't a good option for you, you may still double cleanse by using two regular cleansers instead.

Why Should You Double Cleanse?

The reason why so many people are already double cleansing is that by using two different types of cleansers you'll be able to get a better result.

As you probably already know, an oil-based cleanser, that you should use first, is designed to get rid of all oil-based impurities. These include pollution, sunscreen, makeup, and sebum.

By applying this cleanser first, the second one which is a water-based cleanser will allow you to remove sweat and grime.

Ultimately, a double cleanse won't only give you a more thorough cleanse as it will also revitalize dull skin. In addition, other skin care products that you are using will also penetrate your skin more effectively.

Is Double Cleansing Right For You?

Although double cleansing isn't a necessity, it does bring multiple advantages, especially for some skin types.

In case you have oily skin, you may benefit tremendously from double cleansing. After all, when you are looking to fight oil, it is better to use two gentler formulas than one more powerful formula that can leave your skin very dry.

In case you are acne-prone, double cleaning should also be considered. As you know, you want to ensure that you gently cleanse your skin to help remove the bacteria that may lead to breakouts.

If you usually wear makeup, double cleansing is also a must.

How Do You Double Cleanse?

One of the things you need to keep in mind is that no matter if you choose an oil-based balm followed by a cream, a lotion, or a gel cleanser, the method is always the same.

All you need to do is first apply the oil-based cleanser to your palm and then use your fingers to massage it gently into your skin using circular motions. Don't forget about the hairline and around the eye areas. Click here for one of our favorite oil-based cleansers.

When you need to rinse it, you may use lukewarm water or use a washcloth to avoid dehydration.

Now, you'll need to apply the second cleanser. All you need to do is to keep your skin damp and then apply the water-based cleanser the same way you applied the first one. Keep in mind that you don't need to apply a lot. Just a bit to cover your face is enough.

To remove the second cleanser, you should use lukewarm water and then pat the skin dry with a soft towel.

Pro tip: Gently apply our beauty oil after your preferred moisturizer to lock in the benefits of double cleansing.

How Often Should You Double Cleanse?

In case you are looking to add double cleansing to your skincare routine, you are probably thinking about doing it at night. After all, this is the time of the day when your skin really needs to be cleansed due to all the grime and makeup. However, you can also add double cleansing to your morning routine if you prefer. After all, sebum may be produced as you sleep.

Overall speaking, you just need to pick the time that best suits you. And if you forget to do it one day, don't worry too much about it.
